Two weeks before the due date I no longer felt at ease with my midwife. I was looking for someone who
looked at life the same way as me. Very quickly I was referred to Midwife Ellen. Just that name alone,
"Midwife Ellen", gave me a good feeling. We were in contact that same day and we iommediately hit it
off.
Our talks were nice and she asked
"what do you want"
"What can I do for you"
"What do you expect from me"
.
Those questions gave me a very nice feeling. We had an appointment with her in practice the day of the
birth. We let her know
that we couldn't come because the contractions had begun.
She immediately stopped by to see how things went. Where I thought it could take a while, but Ellen saw
that she could stay. Ellen
was very laid back and knew exactly when she had to cheerlead and when I needed a massage to get through
the contraction. The
bath was exactly ready in time and our daughter was partly born in the bath and the last part just on
the couch.
Our little lady had it difficult and Ellen has acted extremely adequately so that our daughter
(ultimately) has come
healthy into the world.
Bacause her breathing was not good, we had to bring our daughter to the hospital in Rotterdam were she
lain in IC for research and treatment.
Ellen and I have kept in touch a lot which was very nice and I felt very much supported. She also
visited us in the
hospital and we have had good talks, cuddled and cried as if we hasd been friends for years. I felt
enormously
supported and couldn't wish for a better midwife. After five days of IC Rotterdam we could go to the JKZ
hospital in The Hague.
With our daughter it went wonderful and she was allowed to go home after a few days. Even after
hospital, Ellen and I often
have been in touch and she has come over several times to see how the whole family did. And I loved
that. She is a person's person.
She empathises with you and only lets go of you when she knows you can stand on your own feet. She was
indispensable for us. She ensured that we
remained grounded, focused and trust in this fierce time. This is a midwife from thousands and we are
eternally grateful
to her.
